Sea Angels Store products designated as Compostable are designed to biodegrade in a reasonably short period of time in a suitable environment in accordance with ASTM standards for compostability. What a "reasonably short time" is depends on where the product is disposed. For example in landfills, where most garbage is taken, materials degrade very slowly - if at all. This is because modern landfills are designed, according to law, to keep out sunlight, air and moisture. This helps prevent pollutants from the garbage from getting into the air and drinking water, and slows the decomposition of the trash. Sea Angels Store adheres to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) assertion that it is difficult for ANY company to substantiate a claim that products normally disposed of in a landfill are "biodegradable". We understand that home and/or commercial disposal environments available to purchasers of our product can vary widely, therefore we utilize the term "Compostable" where appropriate and supported by ASTM certification.
